Mr Hargitt,
London.
Dear Sir,

My very best thanks for your kind letter of the 11th of Nov of the preceding year and pardon me that I have not answered the same ere this. — My being so extremely engaged has been the cause, I have also been frequently troubled with ill-health. — I read your kind letter with deep interest. I cannot understand why my last letter was open on reaching you, as I had closed it most carefully. I enclose new photographs for the injured ones which I trust may reach safely. — I also send you one of my photographs, although it | is not one of the best in kind remembrance of me, again thanking you much for yours which gave me great pleasure. I also enclose a photograph of Weber which was taken a short time ago in Copenhagen from a sketch which I myself discovered last year in July. The sketch is excellent; it was executed by Professor Horneman in Oct. 1820, when Weber himself was there on a scientific journey. The photograph of the portrait is excellent and is of interest because this portrait was not known at all. —. Unfortunately the litography which is at the beginning of the enclosed sketch of Webers life by me pusblished a short time ago, is not at all good. My remarks on the portrait in it refer to the photograph of which however, was not put into the sketch, being too expensive for the publisher, therefore the poor lithography was made for which my remarks at the beginning | are not suitable, but unfortunately the 1000 Copies of my lifesketch were already printed. —

It is extremely kind on your part, dear Sir, to send me the manuscripts, when an opportunity occurs, although, I think a “lettre chargée”, registered letter, would also convey them safely into my hands. The favorable opportunity for safely transmitting them is seldom. If Professor Joachim were in London and near, he would glady bring me the manuscripts, but he has probably already left London. —

Would you be kind enough to have a copy made at my expense of all the letters of Carl Maria von Weber and Franz Anton (Th. Th.) von Weber in your possession and kindly and forward me the same. Of course I am only fudge properly of the notes in the original or in a good photography.

|

If the notes in your’s and your father’s possession could therefore be photographed at my expense I should be truly grateful. —

I only require one line with the words of every piece. Perhaps the whole would be very expensive in England?

Pray excuse all my requests and believe me to be extremely grateful for all your kindness

I remain, dear Sir,
yours truly
F. W. Jähns.
Professor

P. S. I enclose also a photography of a pencil sketch representing Carl Maria von Weber one year old.—
