My dear Sir,
Receive my heartiest thanks for your kind and valuable letter of the 9th of this month. Believe me when I say, that if I have had the pleasure of having served you in a trifle. I strongly feel that my debt is not by any means cancelled. And yet you are again about to increase my | obligations, and to send me the autograph of the pieces from “Oberon”*.
This is really too good of you; accept even now my best thanks for the same, As to the genuineness of the two autographs of Schubert, there cannot‡ be the slightest doubt. I know his handwriting quite as well as that of Weber, and myself possess a very fine Autograph of his.
I declare again explicitly that “both of the autographs are perfectly authentic, the | name, notes, and words of the text being in Schubert’s own handwriting.”
The sum of 5 ₤ 5 Sh. was paid to me yesterday at the postoffice here. And I enclose the blank, you forwarded to me filled in‡ with my signature & the receipt.
